    regret (poem)

    There is not enough liquor

    and smoke

    in this city

    to burn up

    the memories,

    half remembered

    and half forgotten,

of a life I could have lived

and the child I should have

    been granted—

and time still tick, tick, ticks

    on by

    with never a tock,

and the train wheels spin faster

    and faster

    while the train has stopped.
