regret (poem)

lush forest with smoky atmosphere captured on camera

There is not enough liquor

and smoke

in this city

to burn up

the memories,

half remembered

and half forgotten,

of a life I could have lived

and the child I should have

been granted—

and time still tick, tick, ticks

on by

with never a tock,

and the train wheels spin faster

and faster

while the train has stopped.
