When 14-year-old Gráinne Byrne’s mother is kidnapped by pirates, she must sneak onboard her father’s merchant ship to rescue her, and discovers that he is, in fact, not a merchant but a pirate captain in possession of a magical, mythical artifact called the crane bag.
Following this, she must make her way through dangerous and fantastical circumstances to save her family and friend and finally learn the truth of her family and the reason for their misfortune.
Featuring an appearance from the infamous Captain Blackbeard, the story incorporates a range of history and myth, all blending together into a fast-moving story about the significance of family, friendship, and love.
